Indian online gaming and esports are growing constantly, and BGMI (formerly PUBG), Free Fire, and COD Mobile are the most favored mobile games. Recently, Krafton has concluded the BMPS 2025 (Battleground Mobile Pro Series 2025). Not only that, but now online gaming is coming to the world level.
There is an ongoing Esports World Cup, which has more than 20 games, including mobile, PC, and console games, including the most favored PUBG and Call of Duty. Gamers are taking these as a career, making such content, and earning more than an average government employee in India.
In this realm, the Maharashtra government is planning to ban online gaming. Everyone is surprised because these online games give users an opportunity to show their skill and win the tournament, not just online to the national level, but also in the World Cup.
Story Behind Online Gaming Ban in Maharashtra
Reportedly, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed concern about the rapid growth of online gaming, stating that it is harming young people’s ability to think and leading to student addiction. They suggest a statistic of 97 cases of illegal online betting growth between the years 2023 and 2025.
They said Maharashtra doesn’t have assets to directly stop these online games, which are particularly based out of India; instead, the central government can recheck the facts and ban the illegal activities. The Maharashtra cybersecurity team is running a campaign to educate the students parents about safe gaming and how to manage it.
However, another story is in concern: if legal activity like this grows constantly, the local game developer and business platform also will be on the losing side. It is better to recheck the facts and penalize the illegal activities instead of banning all online games.
Esports World Cup 2025 till glorifying over this concern
On this side, Maharashtra is planning to ban online gaming, while on the other side, EWC (Esports World Cup) is growing more of a fan base. However, in the past few years, India was not part of the Esports World Cup, but this time Krafton has officially invited the winner of BMPS 2025. Team Aryan won the BMPS 2025 title, and they will represent India in the Esports World Cup 2025.
